Nagabhushana accident

A case of reckless and negligent driving has been registered at the Kumaraswamy Layout Traffic Police Station in Bengaluru against Kannada actor Nagabhushana following an accident involving his car that killed a woman.

The actor — known for playing supporting roles in several films — has been booked for causing a fatal accident on the night of Saturday, 30 September.

A 48-year-old woman named Prema S died in the mishap while her husband Krishna B (58) sustained several injuries. He is being treated in a hospital.

According to the FIR filed by the traffic police, the incident occurred at around 9.45 pm on Saturday when the car driven by the actor rammed into the couple from the rear while they were walking along the Vasanthapura Main Road near Suprabhat Shreem Brezee Apartment in Sardar Nagar.

Thereafter, Nagabhushana went on to hit the electric pole, the police stated.

Case registered

Following the incident, the actor allegedly admitted that he was driving his car with the registration number KA-09-MG-5335 at the time of the mishap. According to sources, the actor was driving from Rajarajeshwari Nagar to his residence.

Following the mishap, he is said to have transported the injured couple to a nearby hospital in auto-rickshaws, and then informed the police, who eventually brought him to the police station for investigation.

The traffic police have booked the actor under Sections 279, 337, and 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police arrested the actor and eventually released him on police station bail while issuing a notice to him to report to the police station on 3 October.

Before being released on bail, the actor was also taken for a medical examination.

The police said they retrieved all available CCTV footage and are further investigating the case. It is still not clear whether the couple was walking on the road or on the footpath at the time of the mishap.

However, the actor claimed that they were on the road and not on the footpath.

The police said that they would take further action once they received the results of the medical tests done on the actor. If found driving in an inebriated condition, the police would add appropriate sections under the IPC.

The complaint

Following the accident, a complaint was filed by the couple’s son Partha, who sought appropriate action as per law against Nagabhushana.

In his complaint, Partha, a resident of Suprabhat Shreem Brezee, stated that he received a phone call that his parents had met with an incident and were seriously injured, and that they were admitted to Astra Hospital.

On reaching the hospital, he got to know that his mother had passed away and his father was seriously injured.

“My sister Yashaswini and one Akshay, a resident of Suprabhat Shreem Brezee, have seen Nagabhushana, who has acted in the recent Kannada film Kausalya Supraja Rama. He was at the accident spot where his car had halted after ramming the electric pole near the apartment post the accident,” said Partha in the complaint.

“Later, my father was shifted to Fortis Hospital in Bannerghatta Road,” he added.
