Synopsis: JD(S) state general secretary Manjunath was arrested in Bengaluru after allegedly assaulting traffic constable Arun during a routine traffic check. Police said Manju grabbed the officer by his collar and attempted to kick him after being stopped. The incident occurred under Hulimavu police limits and was captured on video.

Janata Dal (Secular) state general secretary Manjunath has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an on-duty traffic constable in Bengaluru’s Gottigere area, following an altercation over traffic regulation. The incident took place in full public view on the evening of August 16 and was captured on video by bystanders.

According to police, the incident occurred around 4 pm near the Hulimavu traffic police station, where traffic constable Arun M Badagowdar was regulating vehicular movement. Manjunath was passing through the area in his vehicle when Arun signalled him to stop to allow vehicles approaching from the opposite direction to pass.

The traffic restriction reportedly angered the JD(S) leader, who stepped out of his vehicle and questioned the constable. The exchange soon escalated into an argument, eventually resulting in an alleged physical assault.

Videos recorded by people at the spot and subsequently circulated on social media show Manjunath standing beside a white SUV and confronting the uniformed constable. In the footage, Manjunath is seen grabbing Arun by the collar of his uniform shirt while the constable attempts to defend himself.

The visuals further show Manjunath raising his leg as if attempting to kick the officer. Several bystanders then intervene and push Manjunath away from the constable, apparently attempting to prevent the situation from escalating further.

The videos of the confrontation have since gone viral on social media, drawing criticism over the alleged assault of a police officer while he was performing traffic-related duties.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Hulimavu Police Station. Police registered a case against Manjunath on August 16 following the altercation. He was subsequently arrested late that night.

Police have questioned the JD(S) leader in connection with the case, and the investigation is currently underway. The circumstances leading to the confrontation, including the sequence of events before the alleged assault, are being examined as part of the investigation.
