The India Reserve Battalion (IRB) Training Centre, a central initiative to bolster local police during emergencies, will soon begin operations in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) with a strength of 1,100 personnel.

Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) ADGP Umesh Kumar, during a site visit with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sandip Patil and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dr Ramakrishna, confirmed that the centre will be established on 100 acres of land sanctioned by the state. Temporary housing for recruits will be arranged at the old DAR premises.

The ₹600-crore project will include a parade ground, school, hospital, staff quarters, and eco-friendly infrastructure with water bodies. Most funding will come from the state, with the Union government contributing the rest. A proposal for additional land for future expansions is also underway.

Once operational, the IRB will eliminate the need for KSRP support from Bengaluru for Kolar, KGF, Chikkaballapur, and parts of Bengaluru Rural. The site benefits from dual road access and proximity to the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway.
