Synopsis: The Sundar Nagar Residents Welfare Association in Mathikere has decided to rename Sundar Nagar Park as Bharath Bhushan Park in memory of Bharath, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Residents, with support from MLA Munirathna, have unofficially renamed the park and are awaiting formal approval from the concerned department and BBMP commissioner

The Sundar Nagar Residents Welfare Association in Mathikere, Bengaluru, has decided to rename Sundar Nagar Park to Bharath Bhushan Park in the memory and honour of their dear friend Bharath who was killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pramod G S, a resident of Sundar Nagar and member of the Association spoke to South First. He said, “I believe it is a form of respecting Bharath who was our dear friend. We have already requested MLA Munirathna about this and he encouraged our initiative. We have to approach the concerned department and BBMP commissioner to submit a letter to rename this park. This process will take some time.”

He added, “A flex board has been put up unofficially with the photos and name of Bharath Bhushan after our MLA agreed to take this proposal forward. The park is now unofficially recognised as Bharath Bhushan Park. Last Thursday, we had put a word with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, through our MLA about the same proposal. They had no objection to it, but official approval will take time.”

Final rites in Hebbal

Pramod had known Bharath and his elder brother Preetham Chennaveerappa for a long time now. “There are ten members in our association and we were close friends, like a family. What happened with Bharath and his family is unfortunate. On Tuesday, when he was killed, we did not know the news. But later, Preetham left to Delhi that evening, to bring Bharath’s mortal remains back to Bengaluru. It was nothing but a shock to us. This is going to haunt all of us forever no matter what.”

Bharath was one among the 26 people who was killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. He along with his wife, Sujatha and three year old son had left for a trip to Kashmir on 18 April. His mortal remains were brought back to Karnataka on 24 April and cremated in Hebbal.
