Hubballi corporator’s daughter stabbed to death; classmate held

Police said 24-year-old Neha Hiremath was rushed to a hospital after the attack, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The 24-year-old daughter of a Congress corporator from Hubballi in Karnataka was allegedly stabbed to death on Thursday, 18 April.

The perpetrator has been identified as Fayaz, her classmate. They were both students of the BCA course at the BVB College in Hubballi.

He is said to have attacked her on the campus of the college after she rejected his advances.

Police are said to have registered a case in this regard, and are investigating the matter further.

The attack

Hubballi Dharwad Commissioner of Police (CP) Renuka Sukumar confirmed to South First that Neha, the daughter of Hubballi corporator Niranjan Hiremath, had indeed been stabbed on the college’s campus.

She also confirmed the identity of the attacker, and said police apprehended him within an hour of the attack.

The CP also said Neha was rushed to a hospital after the attack, where she was declared dead on arrival.

She added that Fayaz was undergoing treatment under police surveillance because he had sustained injuries on his hands.
