On Saturday, 10 August, an X user revealed a shocking event that happened in Bengaluru — a hidden camera was found in the washroom of one outlet of the popular cafe chain Third Wave Coffee.
A woman found it hidden inside a waste bin facing the toilet seat at the BEL Road outlet of the cafe, according to the person who posted it on social media.
Following the reports, Third Wave Coffee said the employee was terminated immediately after the camera was found.
The news of the incident came to the fore after a person posted about it on Instagram, which was later taken over by X users.
“A woman found a phone in the washroom, hidden in the dustbin, with video recording on for about 2 hours, facing the toilet seat. It was on flight mode so that it makes no sound, and was carefully hidden in the dustbin bag which had a hole made in it so that only the camera is exposed,” the Instagram story said.
“It was quickly found that the phone belongs to one of the men working there. The police was called and they arrived soon enough, and action is being taken,” the user wrote.
“This was so horrific to witness. I will be vigilant at any washroom I use from now on, no matter how well-known the chain of cafe or restaurant is. And I request all of you to do the same. This is absolutely disgusting,” the user added.
🚨 Unbelievable! 🚨
Can’t believe a hidden camera was found in the washroom at a Third Wave Coffee outlet in Bengaluru.
It’s crazy that this could happen at such a popular spot.

Soon after, Third Wave Coffee released a statement saying that the employee was terminated promptly.
“We regret the unfortunate incident at our BEL Road outlet in Bengaluru and want to emphasise that such actions are absolutely unacceptable at Third Wave Coffee. We acted swiftly to address the situation by immediately terminating the person & ensuring the safety of our customers,” said the cafe chain.

Meanwhile, an X user highlighted the need for a “concerted crackdown”.
“This is more rampant than most people know or would believe. “Couple-friendly” hotels, rest rooms, fitting rooms, changing rooms (gyms, swimming pools) are common locations. The onus should not be on unsuspecting persons to protect themselves. This needs a concerted crackdown,” the user wrote.
