Synopsis: Following the death of a seven-year-old girl at a state-run hospital in Mandya after surgery, her family alleged medical negligence.
The family of a seven-year-old girl who died in a state-run hospital in the Mandya district of Karnataka on Saturday, 31 May, after surgery, alleged medical negligence.
The girl underwent surgery following a fractured bone in her foot at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Hospital in Mandya district after undergoing surgery.
Following her death, parents and villagers protested in front of the hospital, alleging medical negligence by the doctors. The seven-year-old girl is the daughter of a farmer couple, the Ningaraju-Ranjitha, of Malavalli taluk.
According to the parents, the girl was admitted to the hospital on 29 May after suffering a fracture in her foot. She underwent surgery on Saturday and was shifted to the ward. After this, the girl suffered from persistent vomiting. Even though the doctors immediately tried to diagnose the issue, she passed away on Saturday night itself.
The girl’s body has been shifted to the KR Hospital for post-mortem.
Mandya Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi said the course of action would be decided after obtaining a report from a team of doctors.
“The girl’s body has been sent to the KR hospital now for post-mortem. A team of doctors will check everything in detail and submit a report on it. Based on the report, we will conduct the investigation and initiate action.”
Meanwhile, Narsimhamurthy, Director of MIMS, who visited the hospital, tried to pacify villagers and parents of the girl who protested on the premises of the hospital.
He said, “We will look into the case and see what happened before deciding that it was a case of medical negligence.”
