The police have an Uttar Pradesh native, who has been working as a security at a private company in Bengaluru, and a 19-year-old Pakistani girl who is apparently his wife for allegedly forging her identity and illegally staying in the city.
According to the police, the girl, identified as Iqra Jeevani, entered India last year through the porous India-Nepal border.
She is a native of Hyderabad in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
According to police, 25-year-old arrested Mulayam Singh Yadav met Iqra through an online “Ludo” game about a year ago and they fell in love. Later, they decided to get married.
Police sources said she subsequently came to Nepal a few months ago where they got married. The couple crossed the India-Nepal border and reached Bihar.
Yadav brought Iqra to Bengaluru, where he worked as a security guard, and the couple rented a house in Junnasandra.
“The man used to work as a security guard at a private firm and used to play Ludo online. Last year, he came in contact with a minor girl. Recently, he asked his Pakistani girlfriend to come to Bengaluru so they could get married. They made a plan to bring her over to India through Nepal in September 2022,” said Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police S Girish.
The couple was living in the labourer quarters under the Bellandur Police Station limits.
He even got an Aadhaar card made for Iqra after changing her name to Rava Yadav, mentioning her as his wife. She even applied for an Indian passport.
Her identity came to light when the Intelligence Bureau tracked Iqra Jeevani’s trail as she was trying to contact her family members back in Pakistan. They alerted the state intelligence.
Based on the information, the city police gathered details about the couple and raided their house. They were questioned and have been arrested, police said.
Iqra Jeevani was subsequently handed over to the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office ) officials, who later remanded her to a state home for women and are further investigating the case, sources said, adding that Yadav had also been arrested.
An FIR was registered under the relevant Section of the Foreigners Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the case.
Govinda Reddy, the owner of the property where the couple was staying, has been booked under Section 7 of the Foreigners Act for failing to inform police about the foreigner staying illegally in his building, the police said.
