FIR against official X handle of BJP Karnataka over post titled ‘Congress Manifesto or Muslim League Manifesto’

The FIR has been registered under the People's Representation Act and Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka on Wednesday, 24 April, said that an FIR was registered against the official X handle of the Karnataka unit of BJP for a post that questioned whether the manifesto of Congress was of the “Muslim League”.

“A FIR has been lodged by the FST team of Malleswaram Assembly Constituency against a tweet posted in X by BJP’s Official handle on 23.04.2024 titled “Congress Manifesto or Muslim League Manifesto” at Malleswaram Police Station,” Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in a post on X.

The FIR has been registered under the People’s Representation Act and Section 153 (promoting hatred and enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“FIR No: 0061/2024 u/s 125 of RP Act and 153 of IPC is booked on 24/4 /2024 for promoting hatred and enmity between different groups & classes of citizens,” the CEO added.

The post by BJP

On Tuesday, the X handle of BJP Karnataka posted on X questioning whether the manifesto released by the Congress was of the Muslim League.

“Congress Manifesto or Muslim League Manifesto? Hijab Enforcement in Educational Institutions. Wealth Distribution to Muslims. Special Reservations to Muslims. Freedom to Practice Personal Laws. Muslims to be Directly Appointed as Judges. Mandate to Public & Private entities to hire Muslims. & Many more such divisive agendas!” it said on X.

The party alleged that the Congress was trying to take away the wealth of “Indians” and “gift it to Muslims”.

“The Congress’ sinister designs are clear: To take away the hard-earned money of Indians & to gift it to Muslims. They will seize our land, wealth and rights, only to gift them to ‘Peacefuls’. In fact, CM @siddaramaiah has already started ‘Wealth Distribution’ to Muslims by taking away SC/ST funds,” the BJP alleged on X.
