FIR against BJP candidate K Sudhakar; ₹4.8 crore seized in Chikkaballapura

The charges, encompassing sections 123 of the RP Act and 171(B, C, E, F) of the IPC, allege Sudhakar's involvement in bribery and undue influence on voters.

In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha polling, authorities uncovered a staggering ₹4.8 crore in cash in Chikkaballapura, on Thursday, 25 April.

Soon after, an FIR was filed by the Static Surveillance Team against K Sudhakar, a high-profile BJP candidate and former minister at the Madanayakanahally police station.

The charges, encompassing sections 123 of the RP Act and 171(B, C, E, F) of the IPC, allege Sudhakar’s involvement in bribery and undue influence on voters.

The cash was seized by the FST (Flying Squad Team). The shocking discovery has prompted serious concerns about the voting process and its integrity.

The state is voting for the 14 of 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the second phase of Lok Sabha election on Friday.

The rest 14 seats will go for polling on 7 May.

Recent Cases

Previously, a BJP office-bearer was among the three people who had been booked for transporting a large sum of money in a car in the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency.

The primary among the three people booked is Lokesh Ambekallu, whom the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Karnataka identified as a secretary of the BJP state office.

CEO Manoj Kumar Meena, through the official handle on X (formerly Twitter), identified the other two people as Venkatesh Prasad and Gangadhar.

Election-related seizures in Karnataka on 25 April, a day before voting touched ₹433.39 crore mark since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on 16 March, according to the Election Commission.

Flying squads, SSTs and Police authorities have so far booked 2,149 FIRs with regard to the seizure of cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals and Freebies.

The Excise Department has booked 3,025 Heinous cases, 4,691 cases for Breach of Licence Conditions, 175 NDPS and 27,625 cases under Section 15 (a) Karnataka Excise Act 1965 and 1,884 different types of Vehicles have been seized.
