An FIR under Section 64 (Punishment for Rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Hanumanthnagar Police Station.
“The accused has been detained and he has been produced before the concerned jurisdictional court and he’s currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing to look into all aspects of the case and verify as well as establish evidence of the crime,” Lokesh B Jagalasar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Bengaluru City, told reporters.
A copy of the FIR seen by South First states that the survivor and the accused knew one another.
During the lunch break, the accused allegedly called the survivor multiple times and asked her to meet him on the seventh floor to collect some belongings.
When she met him, he allegedly tried to forcibly kiss her. When the survivor tried to leave using the lift, the accused allegedly followed her to the sixth floor. He then reportedly dragged her into a men’s washroom and sexually assaulted her.
The accused reportedly also locked the washroom door and confiscated the survivor’s phone when it rang during the assault.
According to the police, the survivor initially avoided reporting the incident but later informed her parents. They then took her to file a complaint at the Hanumanthnagar police station.
