Silk Board–Ragigudda Double-Decker Flyover was opened to traffic just months ago.
Synopsis: Bengaluru Traffic Police will restrict two-wheelers, autorickshaws and goods vehicles on five elevated roads, including the International Airport Road and Electronic City Elevated Corridors and the newly opened Silk Board–Ragigudda Double-Decker Flyover. The restrictions will begin on September 4. Police cited road safety as the reason for the restrictions.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police are set to bar two-wheelers, alongside autorickshaws and goods vehicles, from access to five of the city’s elevated roads, including the Electronic City Elevated Corridor and International Airport Road Elevated Corridor — two of the city’s most-used corridors — and the newly opened Silk Board–Ragigudda Double-Decker Flyover.
The restrictions take effect on September 4 on the BGS Flyover on Mysuru Road, Peenya Elevated Corridor, the Silk Board–Ragigudda Flyover, and the International Airport Road Elevated Corridor between Sanjeevnagar Cross and Vidyashilp Junction.
The restrictions on the Electronic City Elevated Corridor will begin on September 11.
“The Bengaluru Traffic Police gives the highest priority to road safety. With the objective of ensuring smooth movement of traffic for the public and enhancing road safety and thereby curbing fatal accidents, the Bengaluru Traffic Division has reviewed accidents occurring on certain flyovers due to variations in vehicle speeds,” police said in a statement on August 31.
The ban is round the clock for two-wheelers and passenger autorickshaws on the Electronic City Elevated Corridor, Silk Board–Ragigudda Flyover and International Airport Road Elevated Corridor.
Heavy goods vehicles will be barred throughout the day on the BGS Flyover and Silk Board–Ragigudda Flyover. All categories of goods vehicles will be restricted from 6 am to 10 pm on the Electronic City Elevated Corridor and International Airport Road Elevated Corridor.
On the Peenya Elevated Corridor, heavy and medium goods vehicles will be restricted from 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 10 pm.
The restrictions on two-wheelers are not new. In 2023, two-wheelers and autorickshaws were banned from the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway soon after its opening, also on road-safety grounds.
