Election Commission extends Special Intensive Revision schedule for Karnataka and Telangana
In Karnataka, the period for house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers has been extended from 29 July to 8 August. In Telangana, it has been extended to 3 August.
Synopsis: The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka and Telangana, extending the deadlines for completing the exercise. The period for house-to-house verification by BLOs has been extended to 3 August in Telangana and 8 August in Karnataka.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday, 15 July, revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka and Telangana.
In Karnataka, the period for house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) has been extended from 29 July to 8 August. Rationalisation and reorganisation of polling stations will also be completed on 8 August.
The draft electoral roll will be published on 17 August, with claims and objections to be accepted until 16 September. Notices, enquiries and disposal of claims and objections will continue until 15 October, and the final electoral roll will be published on 19 October.
In Telangana, the BLOs’ house-to-house verification, originally scheduled to conclude on 24 July, has been extended until 3 August. Rationalisation and reorganisation of polling stations will be completed on the same day.
The draft electoral roll will be published on 10 August, followed by the claims and objections period until 9 September. Notices, enquiries and disposal of claims and objections will continue until 8 October, ahead of the publication of the final electoral roll on 12 October.
The qualifying date for the revision remains 1 October 2026 in both States.
The ECI announced the third phase of the SIR on 14 May across 16 States and three Union Territories, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
Phase III covers 36.73 crore electors, with more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers undertaking house-to-house verification and 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties assisting in the enumeration process.
As of 16 July, 95.58 percent of Enumeration Forms had been distributed across Karnataka, with 13 districts achieving 100 percent distribution.
Digitisation of completed forms is also under way, with 38.32 percent of Enumeration Forms digitised so far. Chitradurga has recorded the highest digitisation rate at 64 percent, while Bengaluru Urban has digitised 7.5 percent of the completed forms.
