Synopsis: The investigation concerned allegations that Attica Gold Private Ltd habitually purchased or acquired stolen gold articles, allegedly in collusion with its shareholders, directors, and associated persons.
Officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched 16 premises across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam on 23 and 24 September in connection with a money-laundering investigation involving Attica Gold Private Limited, Bengaluru, and others.
ED said in a statement on Friday, 25 September, that the investigation related to allegations that Attica Gold Private Ltd was habitually involved in purchasing or acquiring stolen gold articles, allegedly in collusion with its shareholders, directors, and persons associated with the company.
The ED alleged that key persons PS Ayub alias Bomanahalli Babu, Obedulla A, Mohammed Salman A and Arbin Taj A did not cooperate with the searches and remained absconding during the proceedings. The agency further alleged that employees at the business premises searched had been instructed by the key persons to remain unavailable.
The ED’s Bengaluru zonal office carried out the searches.
The central agency said it initiated the case based on multiple FIRs and chargesheets filed by police authorities across various police stations. The agency later supplemented this information with material it collected on alleged money-laundering activities.
The searches resulted in the seizure of ₹7.52 lakh in cash, foreign currency, gold jewellery and silver articles, which the ED described as proceeds of crime. The agency did not specify the value of the foreign currency, gold jewellery or silver articles in the release.
The ED said further investigation is underway.
