ECI releases Karnataka MLC election schedule; voting slated for June 18

Polling will be held from 9:00 am-4:00 pm on 18 June, with counting at 5:00 pm the same day. The poll process will be completed by 20 June.

Synopsis: The ECI has scheduled biennial polls to the Karnataka Legislative Council on 18 June, 2026, with seven MLAs’ seats falling vacant on 30 June. Notification will be issued 1 June, nominations close 8 June, and counting takes place the same day as polling.

The Election Commission of India has announced biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council by Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), with polling set for 18 June, 2026.

The elections will fill seats vacated by members whose terms end on 30 June, 2026. Those retiring include Govinda Raju, Naseer Ahmed, N Nagaraju (MT B), Prathap Simha Nayak K, Tippannappa, Sunil Vallyapur, and BK Hariprasad.

According to the Commission’s schedule, the notification will be issued on 1 June, nominations close on 8 June, scrutiny is on 9 June, and the last date for withdrawal is 11 June.

Polling will be held from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on 18 June, with counting at 5:00 pm the same day. The election process will be completed by 20 June.

The biennial polls are crucial as they will reshape the composition of the Legislative Council, the Upper House of the Karnataka legislature, where MLAs elect members to represent diverse political and regional interests.
