A woman doctor was arrested from an Air India Express flight at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) after allegedly creating a ruckus over a luggage-related issue and misbehaving with both airline staff and fellow passengers. The incident took place on 17 June on board flight AI 2749 F, bound for Surat.
Confirming the arrest, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Sajith VJ told South First, “The woman had reportedly created ruckus in the flight. She was deboarded from the plane, and a complaint has been filed.”
A FIR has been filed against the doctor, and she has been sent to judicial custody.
The accused, identified as 36-year-old Dr Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai from Yelahanka, reportedly placed her luggage near her seat after boarding. When questioned by the airline crew regarding her baggage, she allegedly responded in an aggressive and unruly manner, which escalated into arguments with both the crew and co-passengers, according to the First Information Report (FIR) filed.
The FIR, lodged by Agnimitra Bahinipati, Associate Manager of Security at Air India Express (AIXL), states that Dr Vyas was asked to move her luggage to the designated storage space, but she refused and began creating a disturbance onboard. As per the FIR, “She misbehaved with the staff and obstructed them in the discharge of their duty, leading to a situation that affected fellow passengers and posed a risk to flight safety.”
Airline officials immediately de-boarded Dr Vyas and handed her over to the airport police. The FIR further mentions that her aggressive behaviour continued even at the police station, where she allegedly attempted to assault female staff.
Based on the complaint, the BIAL Police Station has registered a case under Section 3(1)(a) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982 and sections 351(4) and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 — relating to assault and obstruction of public servants in the discharge of duties.
The flight proceeded to Surat without further disruption after the incident. Police have recorded the statements of witnesses and the airline crew involved and are investigating the case.
