DK Shivakumar announces formation of five corporations under Greater Bengaluru Authority (Supplied)
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday, 15 July, announced that five corporations will be formed under the newly constituted Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), with elections to be held soon.
Speaking at a meeting of the Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committees at KPCC’s Bharat Jodo Bhavan, Shivakumar, who also serves as KPCC president, confirmed the government’s commitment to restructuring Bengaluru’s urban governance.
“The GBA has been constituted, and we are firm on forming five corporations under it. A committee led by MLA Rizwan has been set up for this,” he said. Acknowledging potential opposition, Shivakumar defended the move as an administrative necessity, aimed at improving governance and decentralisation.
He urged party workers to actively participate in the process and assured that their contributions would be recognised. “Our workers must be given importance and positions. I alone cannot bring the government to power—our workers are the backbone,” he said, calling them the “true ambassadors of the government.”
