Regarded as one of Bengaluru’s busiest commercial stretches, Indiranagar’s 100-ft Road on Saturday, October 31, witnessed dramatic events, with a woman being held at knifepoint during a chain-snatching attempt by a man.

The accused, a delivery executive identified as Prabhuraj (40), allegedly approached the woman, who works at a shoe and bag repair store on the 100-ft Road. The woman grew anxious over the accused’s suspicious behaviour and became alert. Prabhuraj then threatened her and demanded her gold chain.

The accused allegedly threatened to stab the woman and even glued her hands with Fevikwik to a table at the shoe store to prevent her escape.

As locals began to take notice, the accused, apparently feeling cornered, took the woman hostage at knifepoint.

Visuals of the incident that went viral on social media show Prabhuraj, wearing a helmet, holding the woman at knifepoint and dragging her toward an auto in a bid to escape as a surrounding crowd urges him to let her go.

Eventually, the locals intervened, overpowered him and handed him over to the Indiranagar police.

Prabhuraj has been arrested, and an FIR has been registered against him under Section 309(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for robbery with hurt.

The Indiranagar police said the accused’s family was facing financial difficulties and that he was reportedly suffering from depression, which allegedly drove him to commit the crime. The woman did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
