In a shocking incident that has now become political, unknown miscreants severed the udders of three cows in Vinayak Nager, under the Cottonpete Police Station limits in Karnataka capital Bengaluru.
According to the police, the incident came to light at around 4.30 am on Sunday, 12 January, when locals found the cows injured and blood on the road.
These cows have been shifted to the Chamarajpet Veterinary Hospital for treatment. This incident has led to tension in the area with many Hindu organisations and leaders gathering at the scene.
Police sources told South First that Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order. Cottonpet Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has been tasked to maintain peace in the area.
An FIR was registered under the Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). During the investigation, one person, Sheikh Nasru (30), from Champaran District of Bihar, was found to have committed this act after being drunk.
He works as a helper in a plastic and cloth bag stitching shop approximately 50 m from where the incident occurred. No other person was found to be involved.
He has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody until 24 January. The cows, after being treated, are presently out of danger.
BJP state president BY Vijayendra took to X to condemn the incident and target the Congress-led government.
“Day by day, there is an increasing assault on Hindu traditions and practices. If the government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah does not take action to curb the forces behind such crimes, people will be forced to conclude that these perpetrators are being supported by powers within the government itself,” he said.
“Since the Congress government came to power, it has shown a negligent attitude towards cow protection. Recently, the government even announced a decision to shut down goshalas, which seems to be a move aimed at appeasing those who consume beef and nothing else,” he added.

Former chief minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai also took to X and said, “For us, who revere the cow as a mother, this act has caused immense anguish. Such an inhuman act committed in the state’s capital during the harvest festival of Makara Sankranti clearly shows that there is no fear of the government among these miscreants.”
Bommai also criticised the government saying, “The state government’s failure to provide proper protection to cows and neglect in funding cow shelters have encouraged such heinous crimes.”

Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan also took to X to claim that the Congress’ appeasement led to such crimes. “Anti-Hindu miscreants slit the udders of 3 cows in Chamarajpete, Bengaluru, just before Sankranti and Gau Pooja. The rising anti-Hindu acts under Karnataka Congress rule reflect dangerous appeasement, encouraging such barbaric crimes. The miscreants must be arrested immediately.”
