‘Congress pioneered combination of private sector-led investment and social welfare’: Jairam Ramesh on Karnataka recording highest per capita NSDP

Synopsis:  Karnataka has recorded India’s highest per capita NSDP at ₹2,04,605 in FY 2024–25, 78% above the national average. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh and CM Siddaramaiah credited private investment and welfare schemes for the achievement. 

Congress MP and senior leader Jairam Ramesh lauded the Congress government in Karnataka for pioneering combination of private sector-led investment and social welfare, leading to the state recording highest per capita net state domestic product (NSDP) in the country.

Sharing the news on X, he said, Karnataka is now undoubtedly the template which the country should follow.

Earlier this week, replying to unstarred questions by Giridhari Yadav and Dinesh Chandra Yadav in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, quoting Ministry of Finance and the National Statistical Office figures for the financial year 2024-25, said Karnataka reported a per capita NSDP of ₹2,04,605.

Further praising Karnataka, Jairam Ramesh wrote on X: ” ⁠At Rs 2,04,605, Karnataka’s NSDP was a whopping 78% higher than the net national income of Rs 1,14,710.”

On Wednesday, 23 July, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sharing the news, said the achievement was also an impact of the state government’s welfare schemes.

He wrote on X :”This achievement reflects not only Karnataka’s economic strength but also the impact of our Guarantee Schemes, which have boosted incomes, increased purchasing power, and driven inclusive growth across the state. As Chief Minister, I remain committed to building a Karnataka where growth is inclusive and people-centric.”

Per capita NSDP of other states

Per capita NSDP (at constant prices) for key South Indian states and Puducherry in 2024–25:

  • Karnataka: ₹2,04,605
  •  Tamil Nadu: ₹1,96,309
  •  Telangana: ₹1,87,912
  •  Andhra Pradesh: ₹1,41,609
  •  Kerala: Data for 2024–25 not available, but stood at ₹1,62,040 in 2023–24
  •  Puducherry: ₹1,55,533.

In terms of growth over the last decade (from 2014–15 to 2024–25):

  • Karnataka saw a 93.6% increase in per capita income
  • Tamil Nadu recorded an 83.3% rise
  • Telangana posted 85.3% growth
  • Andhra Pradesh witnessed a 78.9% increase
  • Puducherry: 32.8% growth.
