Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 28 April, continued his attack on the Congress and alleged that the grand old party disrespected the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

He was speaking in Sirsi in the Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka as part of the BJP’s Lok Sabha election campaign.

“On one side there are those hungry for the vote bank who disrespected the Ram temple and on the other side, there is an Ansari family, Iqbal Ansari whose entire family fought the case against Ram Temple for three generations but when the Supreme Court’s verdict came, he accepted it. When the trustees of Ram Temple invited Ansari to the Pran Pratistha he attended,” he said.

He added that the country will reject the Congress after the Lok Sabha elections since they “rejected the Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony invite”.

Invokes Ram Temple

Modi said that the Congress tried till the last minute to ensure that the Ram Temple was not built and added, “The Ram Temple in Ayodhya should have been built immediately after gaining independence.”

The prime minister also sought the people’s blessing for a developed Karnataka.

“Today I have come to seek the blessings of all of you, of the entire Karnataka, for a developed Karnataka, for a developed India and when there are so many mothers and sisters, there is so much zeal and enthusiasm, there is the belief of victory, there is the resolve for a developed India, then I am fully confident that there will be no dearth of your blessings,” said Modi.

He said that when there is a stable government (at the Centre) with a high majority, the whole world would rely upon it.

The prime minister claimed that the people who murdered the daughter of a Congress councillor in Hubballi did the crime knowing that the people who are hungry for vote bank would save them.

“A few days back, what happened to a daughter in Hubballi, the entire nation is worried about it… On a college campus, in daylight, such dare, they who committed crime know that those hungry for the vote bank will save them in a few days,” Modi said in a veiled reference that Congress was hungry for Muslim (vote bank) votes.

‘Wants to destroy Karnataka’

Modi claimed that the Congress wanted to destroy Karnataka and it encouraged an “anti-national” and “anti-social” mindset.

“In Bengaluru after they (Congress) assumed power, a bomb blast took place in a cafe and what statement they made ‘Gas ka cylinder fata hai, arey! aapka dimaag fata hai ki gas ka cylinder fata hai‘… and those who are named and have linkages with banned organisation PFI,” he said.

“In Wayanad, they are seeking help from these organisations, it encourages them. The track record of Congress is of shedding tears on the killing of terrorists, you all must remember when such an incident took place in Delhi, a leader of Congress was shedding tears about why a terrorist was killed,” he added.

The BJP and its leaders have been alleging that the Congress was supported by the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in the Wayanad constituency in Kerala where its leader Rahul Gandhi is the candidate.

He also claimed that Congress’ Shehzada (referring to Rahul Gandhi) supported the Muslim rulers in pre-independent India while allegedly claiming that Hindu rulers were tyrants.

“The entire country including Karnataka has a history where Nawab, Sultans and Badshah have committed heinous crimes and tyranny on common people, these Sultans have destructed and looted our temples and pilgrimage sites, but ‘Shehzada‘ has given them the clean chit and declared our Rajas and Maharajas as tyrants. This attempt of Congress to divide the nation is dangerous,” the prime minister claimed.
