Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to have pacemaker implanted; under medical observation

Sources in the Congress party said the senior leader has been running a fever and is under observation.

Synopsis: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has been admitted to the Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru following a fever and is under observation.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has been admitted to the Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on the night of Tuesday, 30 September.

“Sri Kharge was advised pacemaker to be implanted and is admitted to the hospital for the planned procedure. He is stable and doing well. Grateful to all of you for your concern and wishes,” his son and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said in a post on X.

Earlier, sources in the Congress had said that the senior leader had a fever and was under observation.

“The leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha was taken to the hospital on Tuesday as he developed a fever and complained of leg pain. He is fine, nothing to worry about. Doctors are monitoring,” a Congress leader had said.

Last year, on 29 September 2024, ahead of the third phase of polling for the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Kharge had fallen unconscious during a poll rally in Jasrota of the Kathua district.

The senior Congress leader fell unconscious while addressing the gathering following a dip in his blood pressure. He was immediately attended by a team of doctors and continued the speech after a while.

Meanwhile, Priyank Kharge had said he was doing well except for low blood pressure.

After recovering, Kharge said, “Till the time Modi is not removed (from power), I will remain alive. I will listen to you… I will fight for you.”
