Condolences pour in for Karnataka-born army Captain MV Pranjal who died fighting terrorists in J&K

The mortal remains of Pranjal are expected to arrive in Bengaluru on Thursday, where the final rites will be conducted with military honours.

A day after the death of two army officers and four soldiers who laid down their lives during a fierce exchange of fire with terrorists, the nation mourned the loss of lives

Captain MV Pranjal (29) of the 63 Rashtriya Rifles and Captain Shubham Gupta of 9 Para Special Forces were the two Indian Army officers who sacrificed their lives while neutralising the terrorists.

Captain Pranjal’s life

Captain Pranjal hailed from Karnataka’s Mysuru. He was on the verge of getting promoted to the rank of Major, said reports. He is survived by his parents and wife.

His mortal remains were expected to arrive in Bengaluru on Thursday, 23 November, where the final rites will be conducted with due military honours at Bannerghatta.

He is the only son of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited’s former Managing Director M Venkatesh and Anuradha M Venkatesh. In 2021, he married Bengaluru-born Aditi, who is currently studying in Chennai. The parents reside in Jigani.

Though Pranjal was from Mysuru, he did his schooling at Delhi Public School in Surathkal, Mangaluru. He earned an engineering degree at the National Defence Academy.

Condolences pour in

Many political leaders, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and JD(S) state president and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, expressed condolences on the sacrifice of Captain Pranjal while valiantly fighting against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

In his post on X, Siddaramaiah said, “The news of martyrdom of four soldiers including Captain MV Pranjal of Karnataka due to firing by militants in Rajouri, is very sad.”

“I pray for the peace of the martyred soldiers. May God give strength to the families of the martyred soldiers to bear this loss. The nation will forever remember the patriotism and sacrifices of these soldiers,” the chief minister wrote.

Condoling his demise, Kumaraswamy said on X, “Heartfelt tributes to Captain MV Pranjal, a proud Kannadiga, who lost his life during the military operation against terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.”

Condolences poured in from across the country for the grieving family and friends of Captain Pranjal, as the nation comes together to honour the memory of this dedicated and brave officer.
