Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Tuesday, 1 October, claimed that his wife Parvathi decided to return the sites allocated by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) since she did not want to be part of any controversy.
Days after Karnataka Lokayukta filed an FIR against Siddaramaiah and others, his wife decided to voluntarily surrender 14 plots of land that were previously allotted to her by MUDA.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Siddaramaiah supported his wife’s decision saying, “My wife thought it had become a reason for hate politics against me so she wrote a letter because she didn’t want any controversy.”
However, it seems like the past has started haunting the chief minister with people questioning him using an old video of his.
Way back in 2011, when the then chief minister BS Yediyurappa was neck deep in the denotification scam, Siddaramaiah, speaking to the media, had said, “Why would he surrender the sites if he hasn’t done anything wrong?”

The BJP said that the move by the chief minister’s wife did not absolve him from the crime.
BJP state president BY Vijayendra said, “Just because they have decided to surrender the sites, it does not mean that all allegations against CM Siddaramaiah and his family will wash out. He is bound to face the investigation and should cooperate. As a CM there can’t be a fair investigation, so we demand his resignation…”
Meanwhile, the chief minister continued to deny any wrongdoing claiming that the original land was gifted by his wife’s brother to her.
He added that his wife asked for alternative sites since MUDA encroached on them. “She didn’t ask for Vijayanagara but they gave it. This has become big politics now,” he said.
Speaking about the ED case, Siddaramaiah said that there was never a question of money laundering in the issue.
“BS Yeddyurappa’s case and mine is a different case. He did denotification of land. I have no role in this… Whether ED or anything else I will fight it out legally,” he said while standing firm on his decision not to resign.
