Synopsis: A violent attack by a class 9 student in a Gurukul residential school in Ballari caused the death of one student and left eight students injured. Police said they are still investigating the motive behind the incident.

A violent attack by a class 9 student in a Gurukul residential school in the Ballari distrct of Karnataka caused the death of one student and left eight students injured.

According to the police, the incident occurred late on Saturday, 7 March, after students ate dinner. When they were asleep in the hostel, the boy allegedly attacked them with an iron bed rod.

Motive under investigation

Ballari police said they are still investigating the motive behind the incident. A search has also been initiated to find the minor accused, who reportedly fled the spot after the incident.

At least eight students were injured in the attack. They were admitted to Ballari Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment. One of them succumbed to their injuries.
