British Queen Consort Camilla will not be in the United Kingdom when Rishi Sunak delivers his first prime ministerial address at 10, Downing Street, on Tuesday, 25 October.

Instead, she will be undergoing rejuvenation therapies about 8,030 kilometres away in Bengaluru, the hometown of Akshata Murthy, the next “first lady” of the United Kingdom.

Queen Consort Camilla and her entourage of 14 — relatives, friends, and security detail — reached the international airport at Devanahalli on Bengaluru’s outskirts on Friday, 21 October, and drove straight to Soukya, a holistic health and wellness centre at Whitefield.

Whitefield is about 30 kilometres from Electronics City, where Nasdaq-listed Infosys is headquartered. The IT behemoth was founded by Akshata’s father NR Narayana Murthy and six other engineers.

The royal visitor’s husband, King Charles-III, is not with her. He is busy appointing Sunak as the the country’s 57th prime minister.

Sources at Soukya said that the centre’s Chairman Dr Issac Mathai has personally chalked out the 75-year-old queen’s daily routine.

“She has settled in well. The queen consort and some of her relatives are put on a diet of satvik food, which comprises more fresh fruits and vegetables,” a source said.

Eighth visit in 12 years

Queen Consort Camilla usually visits the centre with King Charles III, and the royal couple stays for at least 10 days.

The royals have been visiting Soukya since 2010 and during the past 12 years they had visited the centre eight times.

“The royals skipped their visit due the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Otherwise, they, more or less, visited Soukya every year,” the source added.

No medical condition

Soukya follows a combination of meditation, Homeopathy, yoga, therapy, and Ayurveda. While its website claims that the residential medical institute helps in holistic healing or rejuvenation, the queen consort is not here for the treatment of any specific ailment.

“There is no specific ailment as such. The queen is here mainly for rejuvenation and relaxation. Specific yoga and other therapies have been suggested for her. We cannot divulge those details,” another source said.

Sources said Homeopathy is the first choice of medicine for the British royal family for more than 100 years. Prince Charles (now the king) was made the Patron of the Faculty of Homeopathy in the UK.

Dr Mathai has been a holistic health consultant for the British royals for more than 15 years. He is also the Indian Ambassador to the College of Medicine in the UK.

Sources said that Dr Mathai’s relationship with the royals dates back to the 1980s when he was
based in London. He had then organised the first International Health Conference in collaboration with the British Holistic Medical Association, of which the present king is the patron.

It may be pertinent to note here that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and King Charles III had jointly inaugurated the AYUSH Centre at the St Charles Hospital in London in April 2018. Dr Mathai, reportedly, was instrumental in the opening of the centre. He is also its advisor.

With more than 4,000 trees and thousand of medical plants on its premises, Soukya, reportedly, has the lowest carbon footprint.

“Our philosophy that we follow in this healing sanctuary attracted the royals. They also have great admiration for the activities of Soukya and the Soukya Foundation.

Soukya, which claims to provide holistic and integrative treatment, is popular with celebrities from across the world. The centre claimed to have clientele from more than 100 countries.

Eminent personalities such as Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu (visited three times) Oscar-winning Hollywood actress Emma Thompson (stayed twice), royals from the Middle East and Europe, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and many others have stayed in Soukya.
