BMTC suspends conductor after video shows him assaulting woman

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has placed a conductor under suspension after a viral video showed him assaulting a woman on a bus around 10 am on Tuesday, 26 March.

A BMTC statement said conductor Honnappa Nagappa Agasar assaulted the woman following a verbal duel over the issuance of a bus ticket.

The woman from outside the state was heading to Shivajinagar from Bilekalli.

She has complained to the Siddapura police station.

Based on the video, the BMTC has placed Agasar under suspension pending inquiry.

The bus attached to the Kottanur Dinne depot was plying on Route 368/6 between Bannerghatta National Park and Shivajinagar.

Stating that women’s safety has been of high priority to BMTC, the corporation said its 27,000 driving stagg were being given gender sensitisation training.

The statement further added that the BMTC would initiate strict action against those found guilty of any violence or rude behaviour towards women passengers.
