Bhatkal under tight security after mosque pelted with stones during Ganesha idol procession
According to a complaint lodged at the Bhatkal Town Police Station, stones were pelted at the Ismail Sunni Jamia Masjid and the adjoining Tajus Sunnah Arabic Madrasa as the idol procession from Talaand proceeded along the Railway Station Road after crossing the Gulmi railway bridge.

Security has been beefed up in Karnataka’s Bhatkal Town after a mosque and madrassa were allegedly pelted with stones during a Ganesha idol procession on the night of Wednesday, 16 September.
According to a complaint lodged at the Bhatkal Town Police Station, stones were pelted at the Ismail Sunni Jamia Masjid and the adjoining Tajus Sunnah Arabic Madrasa as the idol procession from Talaand proceeded along the Railway Station Road after crossing the Gulmi railway bridge.
Windowpanes of the buildings were damaged in the incident, complainants Abdul Alim and Sahul Amin Gawai said. They demanded legal action against those responsible for the stone pelting.
Police said they were investigating the alleged incident.
The alleged stone pelting sparked a protest, with members of the targeted community gathering outside the Bhatkal Town Police Station and demanding the arrest of those responsible. Police appealed to the gathering to maintain peace and allow the investigation to proceed.
Uttara Kannada Police Superintendent Deepan MN visited the scene and reviewed the situation. “We will certainly take action against whoever has committed any wrongdoing,” he assured the gathering outside the police station and requested them to disperse and allow investigators to carry out their work.
Local media reported that police summoned a few members of the Ganeshotsava committee for questioning.
Police have deployed additional personnel at the site as a precaution.
A counter-complaint said stones were pelted at the idol procession. Police have also registered a case based on it.
