Bengaluru’s long-delayed Yellow Line of Namma Metro has moved closer to operations as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) began inspecting the 19.15-km Reach-5 stretch between RV Road and Bommasandra. The fully elevated line features 16 stations and was initially slated for completion in December 2021. The CMRS will examine key infrastructure, including tracks, viaducts, stations, and signalling systems, with further inspections scheduled for July 25.
Pending approval and compliance with CMRS recommendations, the Yellow Line is expected to open in August, potentially alongside the Green Line extension to Madavara. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may be invited to inaugurate both lines.
Delays were caused by supply issues with Chinese firm CRRC, which failed to meet local manufacturing norms. The project resumed after CRRC partnered with Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems. The Yellow Line will connect southern Bengaluru to Electronics City, benefitting commuters and industries in the region.
