Vyalikaval murder

The dismembered body of a 29-year-old woman was found in a refrigerator at her rented house in the Vyalikaval locality of the Malleswaram area in Bengaluru on Saturday, 21 September.

The victim, identified as Mahalakshmi had been living in a rented house in the Munneshwara Block in Vyalikaval for the past six months. She was employed at a mall.

She had been living separately from her husband Hemanth Das (35) for the past few months due to marital disputes. Mahalakshmi also had a four-year-old daughter, who was staying with her father.

Mahalakshmi’s mother filed a complaint at the Vyalikaval Police Station.

How the body was found

The incident came to light when neighbours alerted her family members about a foul odour emanating from the victim’s house.

“When the family rushed to Vyalikaval from Nelamangala on Saturday afternoon, they were shocked to find the dismembered body of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi inside a refrigerator,” police said.

“Mahalakshmi had been living alone in Bengaluru for the past six months due to marital disputes with her husband Hemant Das. Her husband has been living in Nelamangala,” police said.

Bengaluru Central Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shekhar H Tekkannavar told South First that the incident was uncovered after her family reached her home from Neelamangala. According to them, it was her mother who spotted the body first.

“They rushed to Mahalakshmi’s house in Vyalikaval. Upon opening the door, they discovered the body and immediately alerted the local police. Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR has been registered,” the DCP said.

Yet to ascertain the motive

The DCP added that they were yet to ascertain the motive, and the investigation is ongoing.

“We are questioning the victim’s relatives also,” he said adding that she had been married to Das for five years.

“We have not taken anyone into custody yet. We are recording statements from her relatives and others connected to the case. The family members have not mentioned any suspects,” said Tekkannavar

“She had distanced herself from the family over the last few months. With roots in Nepal, she was born and raised in Bengaluru. We are exploring all angles and aim to apprehend the suspect as soon as possible,” the DCP added.

Police have formed eight teams to identify and nab the accused.

“The mortal remains have been sent for autopsy. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team visited the spot and a dog squad is being pressed into action. The murder is suspected to have occurred around 10 to 15 days ago,” according to officials of the Vyalikaval Police Station.
