Ramalingappa and Umadevi had been married since 2002 and had recently undergone IVF treatment.
A 40-year-old woman has been booked for murder after her four-month-old twin daughters were found dead at their home in Vajarahalli, south Bengaluru, on Tuesday, 1 September. The woman, identified as Umadevi, allegedly drowned the infants before attempting to take her own life.
The Thalagattapura police registered a case based on a complaint by Umadevi’s husband, Ramalingappa, 50. In his complaint, he said he returned to their home in BCCHS Layout on Tuesday afternoon and found a room locked from the inside.
After the door was opened, Ramalingappa reportedly found their two daughters lying dead inside the room, while Umadevi was trying to hang herself. She was rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to the complaint, Ramalingappa and Umadevi had been married since 2002 and had recently undergone IVF treatment. The twins were born in May 2026.
However, soon after their birth, Umadevi reportedly began showing little interest in them and repeatedly suggested that they be given up. She was reportedly receiving psychiatric treatment at NIMHANS for postpartum depression and hormonal imbalance following childbirth.
Further investigation is underway.
