Two people were injured in an explosion at an under-construction building in Bengaluru’s Pulikeshi Nagar on October 20.

The victims, identified as Allauddin and Suraj, sustained injuries to their head and face and were admitted to the Bowring Hospital. According to police, one of them has been discharged while the other is still under treatment.

According to Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, the incident prima facie happened while interior works were underway at the under-construction building.

One of the injured men was a worker, while the other was a security guard at the building.

“One of them had pressed a button, allegedly on a battery torch. On pressing the button, there was a blast. This is according to the statement of the injured person,” Singh said, also adding that the victims have given contradictory statements and the police are trying to verify them.

Singh said the injured men belonged to different states and the investigators are examining their backgrounds with the help of the respective state police teams.

“We are also verifying the details of the house owner and the occupants of the other flats. After thoroughly checking all these details, we will be in a position to establish exactly what happened,” he said.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad, Internal Security Division and bomb squad have inspected the site, and the police are awaiting a forensic report to ascertain the cause of the blast.

“We cannot right now say exactly what it is. But at the same time, I am not ruling out anything. Whatever it is, whether small or big, we take it very seriously,” Singh said.

He also said that the state police have kept all the agencies informed, including the ISD.

“ISD officers have also come, and NIA officers are in touch with them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge urged the public not to speculate until the forensic report was available.

“It is still being investigated. This afternoon, we will get to know. Let us see what it is. It happened last night, that’s all I can tell now. It went to the lab. Until then, we will not pay attention to any rumours,” Kharge said.

He added that investigators were examining whether the explosion was caused by a chemical reaction, an improvised explosive device (IED) or another factor.
