Bengaluru serial killings: 45-year-old cab driver accused of murdering wife, six in-laws
The accused allegedly first killed his wife and switched off her mobile phone before calling other members of her family to their house on the pretext of hosting a party.
A 45-year-old cab driver in Bengaluru has allegedly murdered his wife and six members of her family over two days, following marital discord.
The accused, identified as Shekhar alias Indushekar, is suspected of luring the victims to his house one by one before killing them and dumping their bodies at multiple locations, including Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district and Charmadi Ghat in coastal Karnataka, the Press Trust of India reported.
According to preliminary investigations, Shekhar and Sunitha had been experiencing marital problems for some time. The accused reportedly resented Sunitha’s continued association with her family and believed that they were interfering in their marriage. The couple had been married for around 20 years.
The accused allegedly first killed his wife and switched off her mobile phone before calling other members of her family to their house on the pretext of hosting a party. He is suspected of using a grinding stone to kill the victims and subsequently transporting their bodies in his car to different locations.
The victims include his brothers-in-law, Shivakumar and Shankar, their wives Divya and Nalini, his mother-in-law Rupavati and Shivakumar’s seven-year-old son Puneeth.
The case came to light after Nalini, Sunitha’s sister-in-law, went missing. Her mother subsequently approached the Srirampura police and filed a missing-person complaint. During the investigation, the police questioned Shekhar after discrepancies emerged in his statements.
The body of seven-year-old Puneeth was recovered near the foothills of Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district following a search operation. Police are yet to locate the remaining bodies and are investigating the locations where they may have been dumped.
Police said Shekhar cleaned the house with chemicals to remove bloodstains. The grinding stone allegedly used in the killings has also been seized, PTI reported.
The accused is currently in police custody. The police are verifying his claims.
