Bengaluru: Restrictions, diversions ahead of swearing-in ceremony on 20 May; traffic police issues advisory

Students attending CET examination near Sree Kanteerava Stadium are advised to reach their centres before 8:30 am.

In view of the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister, deputy chief minister, and other ministers at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday, 20 May, elaborate security measures have been put in place  in and around the venue in Central Bengaluru to ensure that the event goes on without a hitch amid the presence of several national-level leaders and leaders from other states.

According to police sources, a total of three platforms/stages have been set up and LED screens have been installed for people to watch the swearing-in ceremony.

Traffic advisory

Police officials also said that traffic movement has been managed with appropriate restrictions and diversions to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Moreover, the traffic police has announced a helpline number for students attending the Common Entrance Test (CET) — that is also happening on Saturday — especially in centres located around educational institutions close to the stadium.

Members of the general public moving to and from the Central Business District (CBD) area near the stadium are expected to be inconvenienced between 9:30 am and 2:30 pm, and the city traffic police has issued an advisory regarding restrictions and diversions.

Traffic restrictions, diversions 

  • All types of vehicles are prohibited from Queens Circle towards Siddalingaiah Circle, road users can take left or right turn at Queens Circle and move towards Lavalle Road or Queens Road.
  • Vehicles moving from Balekundri Circle towards Queens Circle will be diverted towards Police Thimmaiah Circle at Patta Junction. BMTC buses and other vehicles can take a left turn at Police Thimmaiah Circle and proceed towards KR Circle.
  • From CTO Circle towards Queens Circle, no vehicles will be allowed but road users can take Cubbon Road and either can go towards Anil Kumble Circle or towards Manipal Center.
  • Vehicles from Halasuru Gate moving towards Siddalingaiah Circle are diverted towards Devanga Junction and Mission Road.
  • Vehicles of dignitaries arriving for the program are allowed to park at St Joseph’s College Ground.
  • Other vehicles can be parked at BBMP Head Office premises, Badami House, United Mission College campus, and left side of KG Road.
  • Parking of all types of vehicles is prohibited on RRMR Road and Kasturba Road, and Mallya Hospital Road.
  • The invitees arriving for the program should get down from their respective vehicles and reach the venue through RRMR Road and Mallya Hospital Road gates. However, vehicles need to be parked at the above mentioned parking lots.
  • People arriving from different districts in vehicles can reach KG Road/Richmond Circle/Queens Circle and reach the venue by walk while the vehicles are to be parked at Palace Grounds.
  • No explosives, sharp objects matchbox or lighter and such other items should be carried to the place of function.

The advisory stated that members of the general public are to follow all the directions being given by the traffic police on the road, and in case of any congestion or accident, call the traffic control room phone number 080-22943030, 080-22943131.

Citizens attending to important works and students appearing for any examination are requested to reach their destination early, the advisory from the Bangalore Traffic Police (BTP) added.

Examination centres near Kanteerava Stadium

For students attending the CET examination on 20 May near Kanteerava Stadium, they are advised to reach their examination centres before 8:30 am.

In case of any assistance required for travelling, students may contact any traffic police on the road.

Students appearing for the CET examination afternoon paper at St Joseph’s Indian PU College, Mallya Hospital Road, are advised to come to St Mark’s Road and Vittal Mallya Road, and enter the college in front of UB City.

Arrangements have been made by the Karnataka Examination Authority and St Joseph’s PU College to facilitate students appearing for the CET examination at St Joseph’s PU College, Mallya Hospital Road.

Students appearing for the CET examination at St Joseph’s Indian PU College, Mallya Hospital Road, can contact ACP Traffic Planning — 9480801809 — for assistance to reach the venue, the advisory stated.

Entry points at Kanteerava Stadium

  • All “Red Pass” holders will enter from Gate No. 01 on Kasturba Road and Gate No. 05 on RRMR Road and park their vehicles on a “first come, first serve” basis near the indoor stadium.
  • All “Green Pass” holders will enter from Gate No. 05 on RRMR Road and enter the venue. Vehicles will not be allowed.
  • All “Yellow Pass” holders can enter from Gate No. 02 at Siddalingaiah Circle. Vehicles will not be allowed.
  • General public without any pass can enter from Gate No. 03 and 04 on Vittal Mallya (Vaidehi Hospital) Road.
  • All are requested to be remain calm and co-operate with the police officers, and follow the directions given by them.
