Hema arrested in Bengaluru rave party case

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Anekal on the outskirts of Bengaluru city on Wednesday, 5 May, sent Telugu actress Hema to one-day police custody in connection with the rave party case.

Hema was arrested by the Bengaluru City Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) on 3 June when she appeared before its officers for an enquiry.

She was subsequently produced before the court and sent to 14 days of judicial custody.

On Wednesday, the Bengaluru CCB sought Hema’s police custody for two days before the JMFC court.

After listening to the arguments, the court ordered one-day police custody for the actress.

Hema speaks out

While the CCB was taking her to the JMFC Court in Anekal, Hema appeared dismayed over her arrest in connection with the case.

“They made me run and took me somewhere in the midnight. Did I commit a murder?” Hema told reporters in Anekal.

“What did I do? Why did you take me away in such a hurry? All these people took me to a forest and made me sign something,” she said.

However, the actress did not disclose any other details or say anything more to substantiate her accusations.

Hema’s advocate GVNRSS Vara Prasad told reporters in Anekal: “The police had filed a petition seeking custody of the accused for two days. We objected to it.”

He added that such police custody might be allowed for 24 hours in the presence of the counsel of the accused.

“We requested that the accused be questioned in the presence of her counsel,” he said.

“Accordingly, the magistrate passed the order. We are happy. We believe that justice will be delivered in the near future,” said the advocate.

According to police sources, the CCB sought her custody for two days to question her pertaining to the rave party case.

“She was arrested for not just consuming banned narcotic substances. There are allegations that she was one of the organisers as well,” added the sources.

“She tried to mislead the cops by posting a video claiming that she was at her farm house in Hyderabad,” they claimed.

“There are also several other things that need to be ascertained about the case. Hence, we sought her custody for two days,” said the sources.
