Bengaluru Police say sting video targeting Siddaramaiah is part of ‘fabricated, deliberately constructed narrative’
The video, reportedly filmed in 2023 and recently broadcast by some local TV channels, related to unverified incidents from 2011, when Siddaramaiah was the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly during the tenure of the BS Yediyurappa-led BJP government.
Synopsis: The evidence gathered so far prima facie indicates that the allegations of sexual abuse portrayed in the video is part of a fabricated and deliberately constructed narrative. The statements recorded and evidence collected so far do not substantiate any such incident as depicted in the video, police said.
The Bengaluru City Police have prima facie found that the allegations levelled against former chief minister Siddaramaiah in the controversial sting video were part of a fabricated, deliberately constructed narrative.
In a media statement issued on Thursday, 29 October, the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner’s office said a comprehensive investigation was underway into the creation, recording, possession, transfer and subsequent dissemination of the alleged sting video.
“The evidence gathered so far prima facie indicates that the allegations of sexual abuse portrayed in the video is part of a fabricated and deliberately constructed narrative. The statements recorded, and evidence collected during the investigation thus far do not substantiate the occurrence of any such incident as depicted in the video,” the police said.
The video, reportedly filmed in 2023 and recently broadcast by some local TV channels, related to unverified incidents from 2011, when Siddaramaiah was the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly during the tenure of the BS Yediyurappa-led BJP government.
Police said all individuals appearing in the video had been identified and examined. “Their statements and the evidence collected so far, prima facie, with regard to the allegations made or implied in the recording about any individuals mentioned in the video, is false and concocted,” the statement said.
The Commissioner’s office further stated that the mobile phone allegedly used to record the video had been seized and sent for forensic examination to establish the authenticity, integrity and other technical aspects of the recording.
“The investigation is also examining the subsequent possession, transfer and dissemination of the video, including how it came into the custody of the individuals who eventually uploaded it onto social media platforms,” the statement said.
Police have found that the video was uploaded onto multiple social media platforms in September-October 2026, and were trying to reconstruct the chain — from the recording in 2023 to its circulation three years later.
Investigators have found the shop in Delhi from where the original phone, used for recording the video, was purchased. A freelance content creator with possible “associations with certain highly politically connected individuals” in New Delhi was arrested.
Police were examining a possible coordinated effort involving multiple individuals with “malicious intent” behind the video. Notices have been issued to a few identified individuals.
