Bangladeshi migrants detained.
Synopsis: Thirty-one Bangladeshi nationals detained by 10 police stations across Bengaluru were sent to Malda in West Bengal on August 31, as part of an ongoing deportation process. They travelled from SMVT Bengaluru by train under the escort of 20 police personnel. Further deportation procedures will be undertaken after they arrive at Malda. The action was part of Bengaluru Police’s ongoing ‘Operation Muktha’.
The Bengaluru Police on Monday, August 31, initiated the deportation of 31 suspected Bangladeshi nationals who had been detained in connection with cases handled by 10 police stations across the city.
According to Electronic City DCP M Narayana, the group was sent from Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru to Malda in West Bengal under the escort of 20 police personnel, from where they will be deported to Bangladesh.
The group travelled by train under tight security arrangements. Heavy security arrangements were made at the SMVT before the group boarded the train. The police personnel escorting the group will remain throughout their journey to Malda. They are expected to reach Malda around 5 pm on September 1, after which the remaining repatriation formalities will be carried out.
The action comes amid Bengaluru Police’s ongoing “Operation Muktha” against suspected undocumented foreign nationals. Earlier this month, Electronic City division police said they had verified 1,909 people during searches at 29 locations, with 15 identified at the time as Bangladeshi nationals.
Police said Operation Muktha will continue across Bengaluru while also warning the public against taking the law into their hands and harassing the immigrants.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has appealed to residents to share information with police about suspected undocumented immigrants. He meanwhile cautioned that public cooperation in the operation must remain within legal limits and that people should not take the law into their hands. The police also warned vigilante groups against harassing the immigrants living in the city.
