Bengaluru: PES University professor calls a Muslim student ‘terrorist’; suspended

Synopsis: A police complaint also has been filed by the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Congress, with Bengaluru police. the complaint read: “On behalf of NSUI, I wish to bring to your notice that a teacher from PES University, Dr. Muralidhar Deshpande, has allegedly humiliated a minority student by addressing them as belonging to a terrorist group. This act is highly condemnable and unacceptable. NSUI demands immediate suspension of Dr. Muralidhar Deshpande and a public apology video from him for his misconduct. We request you to take immediate and strict action in this matter.”
On Friday, 27 March, a professor at PES University in Bengaluru was suspended, and a detailed enquiry has been launched, after he was caught calling a Muslim student terrorist in a now viral video.
The letter addressed to the professor read: ” A case of student complaint has been received. Pending detail enquiry into the matter you are kept under suspension with immediate effect.”

According to further reports, he also made remarks such as “Iran war happened because of people like you,” “Trump will take you away,” and “You will go to hell.”
A similar incident had come to light in 2022, in Manipal University, where a professor compared a Muslim student to the convicted terrorist Ajmal Kasab.
According to a BBC report, The professor at the Manipal Institute of Technology in Udupi district allegedly asked a student for his name and then said, “Oh you are like Kasab” after hearing it.
