The eagerly awaited 3.14-km extension of Bengaluru’s Green Line metro from Nagasandra to Madavara is set to open for public use on November 7, bringing three new stations — Manjunathanagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara (BIEC) — under Phase-2 of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) project.

This Rs 1,168-crore expansion aims to significantly ease access to the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), a major venue for national and international events, and improve connectivity along the city’s northern corridors.

In a pre-launch inspection, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, and other dignitaries traversed the new stretch from Yeshwanthpur to Madavara.

Speaking to the media, Shivakumar underscored the extension’s role in reducing travel time for residents, with the BIEC station providing a direct link to one of Karnataka’s key exhibition hubs.

The new stretch is expected to reduce travel times by up to 30% for commuters from surrounding areas.

Features and pricing

The Manjunathanagar Station is equipped with a foot overbridge (FoB), providing a safe pedestrian crossing near the station. At Chikkabidarakallu Station, a pedestrian underpass has been introduced, ensuring seamless access across the NHAI main road. Similarly, Madavara (BIEC) Station offers an underpass, enabling safe crossings on the NH road.

Once operational, the first train from Madavara will depart at 5:00 am, and the last at 11:00 pm, with a headway of 10 minutes between Nagasandra and Madavara.

Ticket prices range from Rs 10 to Rs 60 for this section, ensuring affordable travel options for the expanding commuter base.

This addition is anticipated to benefit an additional 44,000 daily passengers, contributing to sustainable transport options in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.
