Gang Rape

Four men dragged a woman into a car and took turns raping her in the moving vehicle in Bengaluru, the police said on Friday, 31 March — six days after the incident.

The 19-year-old was sitting in a park with a male friend in the National Games Village, a sprawling luxury conclave, in Koramangala when one of the men approached them around 9.30 pm on 25 March.

The area is a favourite hangout of techies, who work in the several firms located in the neighbourhood.

The man allegedly hauled up the duo for smoking in the park, and a row ensued.

“The woman insisted that her friend leave the park, saying she could handle the situation since she recognised the man who had approached them; apparently, he lived in the same locality as hers. The accused summoned his three friends to the park and abducted her in a white-coloured Maruti 800 car,” the police said.

Woman dumped near home

The men allegedly dragged her into the car and drove towards Hosur. The vehicle roamed around Domlur, Nice Road, Anekal, and other areas. The woman said all four accused sexually assaulted her for about three hours in the moving car.

The woman said the men dumped her on the road near her residence at Vivek Nagar, around 6 km from where she was abducted, and drove off.

She sought medical treatment before complaining to the Koramangala police the next day.

“The accused men were not known to the survivor personally” Deputy Commission of Bengaluru Southeast Police  CK Baba told South First. The survivor had recognised one of the accused since he lived in the same locality as her.

Accused arrested in 8 hours

Incidentally, this was the second instance of gang rape reported in Bengaluru in four months.

After receiving the complaint, the police formed two special teams and arrested the accused in eight hours.

The men were identified as Santosh, Vijay, Sridhar, and Kiran, all aged 23-24, and living in and around Ejipura.

While two of them were electricians, the others were office assistants in different private firms in the city, the police said.

“It is too early to comment on the incident as we are waiting for medical reports,” the DCP said, adding that the woman’s friend was not a person of interest in the case.

The police have charged the accused under IPC Sections 376D (gangrape), 376 (rape), 373 (kidnap), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
