All three bodies were found lying on the same bed inside a bedroom, and the police suspect they could have overdosed on some medication.
In a suspected suicide pact, three members of a family were found dead inside a flat near West of Chord Road in North Bengaluru on Sunday, 18 December.
The deceased have been identified as Yashoda (70), her daughter Suman (41), and son Naresh (36).
All three bodies were found lying on the same bed inside a bedroom, and the police suspect they could have overdosed on some medication.
According to the cops, the incident came to light on Sunday night when the family’s relatives tried calling them several times on all of their phone numbers, but elicited no response.
The last time they (relatives) contacted the family was on Saturday evening, when they responded to the phone calls.
On Sunday night, they grew suspicious and informed the Mahalakshmi Layout police, who rushed to the spot and broke open the door of the flat, only to find the trio dead.
The cops retrieved a note from the spot, in which the deceased apparently stated that all of their assets would go to other members of their family. The note was signed by both Suman and Naresh, the police said.
“However, no reason for their suicide was mentioned in the note,” the investigating officer told South First.
Inquiries with the relatives revealed that Yashoda had age-related ailments, but both Suman and Naresh were healthy and often interacted with others.
They remained unmarried while Aparna — their other sibling — was married and lived with her husband, the police said.
Naresh worked as a civil contractor and Suman was a homemaker, taking care of her elderly mother, the police added.
During preliminary inquiries, the police learnt that four people had come to Naresh’s house on Sunday, but they told the cops that they had come to see him at his house as they could not contact him over the phone.
Later, around 10 people — including the four — call up Naresh, but in vain.
Aparna subsequently filed a complaint with the Mahalakshmi Layout police with the four persons named as suspects, but did not name a motive.
The cops registered a case of abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the IPC against the four, and are questioning them.
“Our men found some tablets and tablet covers at the flat. The three bodies were subjected to post-mortem examination at the MS Ramaiah Hospital on Monday. We are awaiting the examination report to ascertain how they ended their lives,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Division) Vinayak Patil told South First.
