Fourth FIR against Prajwal Revanna in sex abuse case

A court in Bengaluru on Monday, 10 June, sent former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual abuse against several women, to 14 days judicial custody.

He was produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court as his Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody ended on 10 June.

The court on 31 May remanded him to SIT custody till 6 June and later extended it till 10 June.

While in their custody, the SIT conducted a detailed investigation, including gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, and questioned Prajwal extensively about the allegations.

Custody till 24 June

The court, taking into consideration the gravity of the allegations and the evidence presented by the SIT, decided to remand him to judicial custody for 14 days, till 24 June.

The 33-year-old grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda had failed in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the recent polls.

SIT officials arrested Prajwal soon after he landed at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport from Germany on 31 May.

He had left for Germany on 27 April, a day after Hassan went to the polls. A ‘Blue Corner Notice’ seeking information on his whereabouts had earlier been issued by Interpol, following a request by the SIT via the CBI.

A Special Court for Elected Representatives issued an arrest warrant against Prajwal on 18 May, following an application moved by the SIT.

He was arrested in a case registered against him in Holenarasipura in Hassan district on 28 April. He was accused of sexually harassing a 47-year-old former maid. He is listed as accused number two, while his father and MLA, HD Revanna, is the primary accused.

Prajwal has been booked in three cases of sexual assault. There are also charges of rape against him.

The cases of sexual abuse came to light after pen drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Prajwal were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha polls there on 26 April.

JD(S) suspended him from the party following the cases filed against him.

SIT questions Bhavani

Bhavani Revanna, the mother of Prajwal, had on Friday appeared before the SIT in connection with an abduction case following a direction from the Karnataka High Court, which granted her interim anticipatory bail earlier in the day.

Bhavani is facing charges of kidnapping a woman, allegedly to help her son, who is accused of sexually abusing several women and is currently in SIT custody.

She was granted interim anticipatory bail by Justice Krishna S Dixit subject to her appearing before the investigating officer of SIT by 1 pm on Friday and fully cooperating with the probe.

The high court has barred her from entering the jurisdictions of KR Nagar taluk in Mysuru district, and the entire Hassan district, where the alleged kidnapping of the woman, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her son, took place.

Meanwhile, the SIT has detained Bhavani’s car driver in connection with the kidnapping case, sources said.
