Bengaluru college professor ‘proposes’ to student in class; students assault him

A professor at a medical college in Bengaluru Rural district “proposed” to a female student during a class, then claimed she had earlier proposed to him when confronted. Videos of the incident and a confrontation that followed surfaced on social media on Thursday, 26 March.

Location data embedded in one of the videos suggest the incident took place at Siddhartha Medical College in T Beguru village, Nelamangala taluk. Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara owns the college.

The videos show the professor delivering a farewell address to a class. At the end, he says he wants to propose to a student.

“I couldn’t resist the immense love given by your batch. I would like to propose to one of the most important girls in your batch who did propose to me,” he says.

He then says he will distribute chocolates to the class before saying “I love you” and naming the student.

A heated exchange follows. The student tells him, “If you want to speak, you can go to the principal.” The professor then claims she had ‘proposed’ to him earlier, adding, “There is a CCTV image.”

Two more videos show a female student hitting the professor with footwear, while a group of male students assault him. No police case has been registered so far.
