According to police: “When a group of youngsters were driving a car recklessly in the market on 24 May, Abhilash and his friend Nagesh questioned them and asked to drive cautiously and slowly.”

“Upset by this, they turned up near Abhilash’s residence on Monday night and attacked him. In the altercation, some houses incurred minor damages. Abhilash was rushed to the hospital and is responding to the treatment,” claimed police.

Dismissing any communal angle to the incident, police said that they pacified the protestors and that the law and order situation is back to normal.

Mandya SP N Yatish told South First: “It was a minor scuffle between two groups over a speeding vehicle. One person named Abilash was injured in the altercation and hospitalised. He has recovered.”

“We have not received any complaints from both sides. It was not a communal fight. Following the incident, around 25 to 30 people gathered in front of the hospital and protested,” he added,

“We have pacified the situation and law and order has returned to normalcy. We have not arrested or taken anyone into custody connected to the incident,” stated Yatish.
