Synopsis: Relatives of the deceased stormed the college on Saturday, 9 August, and confronted the principal and accused the institution of ignoring repeated complaints of harassment. They alleged that Anjali had been locked in a room for an hour and tortured.
A 21-year-old fourth-semester BA student of Bhandari College in Guledgudda died by suicide, allegedly due to harassment by her classmates.
The student, Anjali Mundas, was found hanging in her house in Bagalkote district on Friday, 8 August. The young woman was alone at home when she took the extreme step.
A death note found at the scene mentioned the names of Anjali’s two classmates, Varsha Jammanakatti and Pradeep Alagundi, accusing them of ragging and harassment.
“Varsha, Pradeep, and their friends are responsible for my death. They have broken me mentally and spoilt my life. They should not be spared,” the note read. It also mentioned the phone numbers of the two.
The incident sparked widespread anger among her family members and student organisations.

According to the complaint and statements from the family, Anjali was allegedly taken to Room No. 20 in the college’s PU block, where she was locked inside for about an hour. It is alleged that her friendship with another student was misinterpreted, and she was harassed and ragged by linking her romantically with the other person.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the college after reports that the camera covering the area was not operational at the time.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded the immediate expulsion of the accused students and action against the college management.
Guledgudda police have registered a case of abetment to suicide and are investigating. No arrests have been made.
