Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
The Special Court of People’s Representatives in Bengaluru adjourned the hearing of a private complaint filed by social activist TJ Abraham against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others on the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam to 9 September.
It came after the Karnataka High Court directed the court on Monday to defer the hearing in the case till it heard the case.
Meanwhile, the Opposition parties BJP and JD(S) alleged that Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvathy attempted to destroy evidence by tampering with a letter written to the MUDA.
The letter, which has been made public, pertains to a claim for compensation for 3.15 acres of encroached land. Opposition leaders claim that after the MUDA scam came to light, Parvathy altered the letter by whitening out a sentence. They are now demanding a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
However, the chief minister denied the allegations of the Opposition leaders.
Denying the allegations, Siddaramaiah asked reporters in Koppal: “It is a false letter. Have they raised it earlier? They have carried out padayatra. Did they raise this issue?”
“I am not aware of it as I have not yet seen that letter. Kumaraswamy is always a hit-and-run case. He has made several allegations in the past. Has he taken any of those allegations to the logical end? He displayed a pen drive but has he exposed it?” asked the chief minister.
Meanwhile, in a post on X, the Karnataka unit of the BJP alleged that Siddarmaiah was attempting to cover his tracks.
“Corrupt Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is attempting to cover his tracks by whitewashing evidence! Documents exposing his involvement in the MUDA scam are being revealed day by day,” the BJP said.
“However, in a cunning move, his team is trying to conceal the truth by tampering with the documents. It has come to light that Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, wrote a letter requesting a site in Vijayanagar, but MUDA officials have manipulated the letter by removing crucial lines to hide the whitener scam,”
“Siddaramaiah, who has taken a deceitful path to conceal his corruption, is forcing his loyalists to leave the state. We demand that the corrupt Chief Minister resign immediately. Only then can the truth about his corruption be exposed. If he doesn’t step down, he will shamelessly try to clear his name and pretend to be a paragon of honesty like Satyaharishchandra!” the saffron party added.
