Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair receives threats; address, mobile number leaked; complaint filed

Synopsis: Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair filed a police complaint in Bengaluru after receiving threats and having his address and phone number leaked online. He claimed the same person had earlier sent pork to his home in 2023. Tagging Karnataka leaders, he urged strict action and shared screenshots of threats from right-wing accounts, citing ongoing life threats against him.

Alt News co founder Mohammed Zubair on Monday, 12 May, filed a complaint with the Bengaluru police, after receiving threats, and having his home address and mobile number leaked online.

Taking it to X, the fact checker and journalist claimed that, he had been receiving threats from unknown people that they will send pork meat to his home address.

He further said that, the same person had in 2023 sent pork meat to his home and had posted the shipping address online.

Recalling that he had then filed a complaint, but the FIR was closed within a few months, Zubair demanded strict action this time.

‘Not the first time’

Tagging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, he wrote: “People have leaked my home address and Mobile Number and have threatened to send Pork to my address. There are already life threats against me. This isn’t the first time. The same person in 2023 had sent Pork to my address and shared the shipping address on Twitter. I am have filed a complaint before DCP East Bengaluru. Trust that Commissioner of Bengaluru police, and the DGP Bengaluru takes this threat seriously at least this time. Last time when I filed a complaint, the FIR was closed after a few months.”

Zubair further attached screenshots of the threats he received online, where certain right wing accounts gave him death threats.

In the past few days, Zubair, and the team at Alt News has been instrumental in bunking many false claims amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
