Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, 4 November, announced an unemployment allowance of ₹2000 per month to the youngsters of Jharkhand if the BJP wins in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. It is similar to Congress’ ‘Yuva Nidhi’ in Karnataka and ‘Cheyutha’ in Telangana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, 4 November, announced poll promises of the BJP in Jharkhand, including an unemployment allowance of ₹2000 per month to youngsters if the saffron party wins the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Modi’s announcement comes just a few days after he made a series of posts on X slamming the guarantee schemes implemented by the Congress in the states where it was elected to power recently, including Karnataka and Telangana.
Modi criticised the Congress’ “guarantees”, which also include an unemployment allowance, saying that they were causing financial instability in Congress-ruled states of Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh.
BJP leaders often refer to welfare schemes announced by other parties as ‘freebies’. The PM himself had earlier described them as ‘revdis’ yet the party has found itself making similar promises ahead of polls.
During a poll rally in Jharkhand’s Garhwa, the prime minister also said that under ‘Gogo Didi Yojana’, women in the state will be provided with ₹2,100 every month.
He also added that upon forming the government in the state, the BJP will provide gas cylinders for ₹500.
The promises made by Modi on Monday are on similar lines with the Congress’ guarantees which he harshly criticised a few days prior.
“The Congress Party is realising the hard way that making unreal promises is easy but implementing them properly is tough or impossible. Campaign after campaign they promise things to the people, which they also know they will never be able to deliver. Now, they stand badly exposed in front of the people!” Modi had said on X on 1 November.
“Check any state where the Congress has Governments today – Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana- the developmental trajectory and fiscal health is turning from bad to worse. Their so-called Guarantees lie unfulfilled, which is a terrible deceit upon the people of these states. The victims of such politics are the poor, youngsters, farmers and women, who are not only denied the benefits of these promises but also see their existing schemes diluted,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and Vice-Chairperson of the Karnataka Guarantee Implementation Committee Mehroz Khan told South First that the announcement showcased the double standards of Prime Minister Modi.
“He (Modi) says that the Karnataka government is in trouble and there is an economic downfall due to the guarantees. And then, he goes to other places and makes similar promises,” said Khan.
“It reflects the double standards of the prime minister,” he added.
“The prime minister is just making promises and is not making efforts to implement them. Just look at Madhya Pradesh, many promises were made ahead of the Assembly polls but nothing was implemented,” he claimed.
“During the elections, they are making announcements and are not bothered about them afterwards. However, the Congress is implementing all our promises,” added Khan.
Meanwhile, Karnataka MLA Arvind Bellad, who represents the Hubli-Dharwad constituency, told South First that, although he was unaware of the promises the prime minister made in Jharkhand, he was confident they were made after much thought.
“Whatever the prime minister has said, he would have thought about it. He would have thought about the repercussions in the short term and the long term. I think whatever he said would be based on that. I’m sure it’ll be in the interest of the people and the nation,” he said.
