Synopsis: Explaining their decision of choosing Bengaluru, the blog said, “Bengaluru is one of the world’s strongest ecosystems for AI research, infrastructure, and software engineering. The city has a unique blend of startup velocity and deep academic rigor, a combination that’s critical when you’re pushing the boundaries of physical AI. But we didn’t want to collaborate at arm’s length. We wanted to build inside the ecosystem.”

United States based robotics startup Skild AI, has opened it’s first office outside the country in Bengaluru, India.

The news comes after Anthropic opened it’s office in Bengaluru, and Open AI announced they would open the office in the city by year end.

Sharing the news, the company wrote on X: “India, we’re here! From one Silicon Valley to another, we’re thrilled to open our newest office in Bengaluru.”

According to a Bloomberg report, Skild AI Inc., is a fast-rising startup that makes software to help robots learn to complete tasks. “Although several robotics firms are focused on specific task areas, Skild is pursuing an AI-powered robotic “brain.” The goal is not to optimize for a single workflow, but to build a system that can adapt across environments and tasks, by training its systems much like humans learn: watching and practicing,” the report noted.

According to the blog, their goal is “omni-bodied intelligence – any robot, any task, one brain. To accomplish that, we need a high density of technical talent.”

Choosing Bengaluru

Explaining their decision to choose Bengaluru, the blog said, “Bengaluru is one of the world’s strongest ecosystems for AI research, infrastructure, and software engineering. But we didn’t want to collaborate at arm’s length. We wanted to build inside the ecosystem.”

The blog further read: “Establishing a presence here allows us to: Recruit world-class robotics engineers, AI scientists, and systems engineers; Increase the diversity of thinking across model architecture and deployment strategy; Strengthen our infrastructure for large-scale, real-world deployments.”

“Expanding into Bengaluru increases our capacity to experiment, stress-test, and refine core components of the brain, from perception and control policies to evaluation and deployment infrastructure,” it added.

Third AI firm in Bengaluru

Earlier, Open AI had announced that it plans to open an office in Bengaluru later this year. The move was announced as part of the OpenAI for India initiative that was launched at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi. “To better serve users and partners in India, OpenAI also plans to open new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru later this year, alongside its existing presence in New Delhi,” a blog post on its website said.

US-based AI giant Anthropic also had officially opened its first India office – in Bengaluru – marking the Karnataka capital as second expansion in Asia after Tokyo.

Led by its India Managing Director Irina Ghose, the Bengaluru office will prioritise hiring local talent across diverse roles. This strategic push comes as India’s run-rate revenue for Anthropic has doubled since October 2025, driven by intense technical usage.
