The ongoing diplomatic standoff between India and Canada has sparked off outrage among a section of Indian. Calling themselves ‘unabondoning nationalists’, the group of youngsters are calling for a ‘Quit Canada’ movement, asking people of Indian origin to return home.
Barely months ago, members of the ‘unabondoning nationalists’ had applied for Canadian visa. They couldn’t wait to join their friends, neighbours who had flown to Canada for better opportunities.
Unable to clear their IELTS to qualify, they were jilted by Canadian authorities, refusing them work or study visa. The group, however, insists that rejection of their Canadian visa has nothing to do with their nationalistic stance against the country.
The diplomatic standoff has given them new purpose. Now they want all Indian-origin Canadians as well as NRIs in Canada to return once for all. Gone are the day of facing mockery for failing to secure a Canadian visa. The group has now vowed to make it a virtue.
They take pride in not being able to go, study, work and settle in Canada, thanks to their new-found spirit of nationalism. If anything, the momentum has given them a moral high ground of not abandoning their country to go to another foreign land, unlike their peers.
The Quit Canada movement is calling on Indians in Canada to show some spine, partake in show of solidarity with India, wear their love for their roots on their sleeves, reject all their prospects in Canada and return to India at once.
“Without Indians and people of Indian origin there, Canada’s economy will collapse in a matter of weeks, if not days. That is the lesson we must teach them for not giving us Visa…I mean, treating India poorly,” an armchair activist with Unabondoning Nationalists told Satire Satya.
Another member of the group, who forewarned that she has a terrible sense of humour, said, “Leaning Kannada seems like a better option than to be in Canada today.” While the group is making a lot of noise on social media with their call to Quit Canada, there seems to be little reciprocation from those settled in Canada.
